September 2013: Providing Student Services at Intensive English Programs

Integrate Conversation Program into University Curriculum

At OSU, our Student Engagement Coordinator for IEP students works with faculty to establish our conversation partner program as an option to fulfill a course requirement. This increases our number of volunteers, and the diversity of students who join the program and are exposed to international students.

Integrating International Students On Campus

I have started an event called the "Blackbook Affair." At the beginning of each fall semester, we have a big party and the domestic students are invited to meet the international students. The student with the most "friends"names in his/her little blackbook wins the main prize. This year it was a T.V ( we also had kindles and gift cards, music and food) The students loved it. great feedback!

Student Mentor Program

Once a week, international students take a one hour culture class that is taught to them by undergraduate students on campus. The culture class covers all kinds of topics specific to the U.S. and their region, while introducing them to students who are already on campus. We plan events for them to mingle as well with their student mentors.

May 2013: The Adviser's Manual

Providing Feedback

I think I found an incorrect citation reference in the Manual and couldn't find any place to provide feedback.

It would be helpful to have a quick, easy way to provide feedback when a possible typo is found.

btw, the reference is under 4.12.2.1 I think it should point to 8 CFR 214.2(j)(1)(viii) instead of (j)(1)(iii) regarding a change of address for J-1s
